What is Szamorodni?

Szamorodni is a classification of Hungarian Tokaji wine, characterized by its restrained sweetness. The term, derived from Slavic languages, means "as it comes" and refers to the practice of harvesting both botrytized and non-botrytized grapes together.

Sweet Szamorodni wines must have a residual sugar content of at least 30g per liter and are required to be aged in the bottle for a minimum of 2 years. It shares similar criteria with the Aszú 3 Puttonyos classification.
