Furmint is Hungary’s most famous indigenous grape variety.
While it is best known for producing sweet wines in the Tokaj region, many dry Furmint wines are gaining in popularity.
Furmint is widely cultivated in Slovakia, Slovenia, Austria, Croatia, and Romania. It is known as Mosler in Austria and Moslavac in Croatia.
In Hungary, it is often blended with Hárslevelű and Tamaioasa Românească to create the world-renowned sweet wines of Tokaj.
Dry Furmint wines are characterized by aromas of lime, pear, and chamomile, while aged sweet wines develop notes of apricot, honey, walnuts, and spices.
