Introductory notes

When Count Piero Antinori first visited Romania, he was captivated by the local wines. He immediately decided to purchase a small vineyard in the Dealu Mare region and named it "Via Marchizului" or "The Marquis' Vineyard."

Via Marchizului is an exceptional vineyard in the Dealu Mare region, situated at an elevation of 261-273 meters with a southwest-facing slope. There are only three grape varieties cultivated here: Negru de Dragasani, Feteasca neagra, and Pinot Noir.

This wine is produced from single-vineyard, fully organically grown grapes.

Tasting notes

  • Appearance
    Garnet color.
  • Nose
The aroma is intense and very rich. It features notes of plum, sour cherry, Morello cherry, blackberry, and cassis, complemented by elements of cocoa, dark chocolate, mint, licorice, cinnamon, and coffee derived from barrel aging. After some time in the glass, spicy notes reminiscent of cinnamon and cloves become more obvious.
  • Palate
The attack is powerful and robust, with a sense of richly concentrated fruit. Ripe fruit flavors spread in the mouth, evoking cocoa and plum. The tannins are abundant and very fine, and the texture is reminiscent of velvet. With its solid body, it is well-prepared for long-term aging, which will further enhance its smooth texture and full-bodied character. The finish is robust and long-lasting, elegantly showcasing the wine's top-quality status.
  • Food pairing
It pairs well with oven-roasted wild boar, roast beef, lean beef steaks, beef in red wine sauce, Bolognese, dark chocolate, salami, dried prunes, matured cheese.

However, the Dealu Mare wine region was hit by hail towards the end of spring, significantly impacting the vineyards and reducing the harvest by half. The grapes benefited from increased mineral resources, physico-chemical properties, and high sugar content. Summer and autumn temperatures remained within the normal range of recent years, and the total annual precipitation reached 646 mm.
