From February 8 to February 28, 2025, we are pleased to host a solo exhibition by Eri Sasaki, a Yokohama-based glass artist.
Message from the Artist
My name is Eri Sasaki, and I create glass accessories and objects under the concept of "wearable art."
As an artist working primarily with abstract forms, my journey led me to discover borosilicate glass while searching for new materials to bring my three-dimensional works to life.
This remarkable glass—commonly used for heat-resistant glassware like beakers—is shaped using a high-temperature burner with oxygen. The type of flame, whether oxidizing or reducing, can transform a single color of glass into a mesmerizing array of shades and metallic lusters.
When exposed to fire, glass flows like a liquid, and I strive to create organic, nature-inspired forms that take shape under the influence of fire and gravity. Glass, in essence, is an art born from fire—a phoenix rising from the flames.
My work is deeply inspired by Émile Gallé, a pioneer of Art Nouveau glass, whose creations were influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement—a response to mass production—and the Japanese artist Hokkai Takashima, who introduced Japanese aesthetics to France.
In today’s world, where mechanization and mass production continue to dominate, I am committed to crafting glass art that stands apart—art that conveys a sense of life and individuality.
Glass has long captivated the human heart with its timeless beauty. My hope is that people will wear, carry, and cherish these delicate creations, keeping their beauty close in everyday life. This passion is what drives me to create glass art.
The name of my online shop, "Que Bonita," comes from the Portuguese phrase meaning "How beautiful!" It perfectly captures the awe and emotion I felt when I first encountered this incredible material.
