Averesti Winery
Domeniile Averești is located in the Huși Wine Region, within the Averești Viticultural Center, in northeastern Romania. Archaeological evidence suggests that grapevines have been cultivated in this area since the Cucuteni period (5500 to 2750 BC).
In 1874, the Romanian nobleman Stefan Negruzzi and the French oenologist René Faure believed this terroir was unique. They began integrating modern viticulture concepts and practices. The revival of old Romanian grape varieties like Zghihara and Busuioaca and the introduction of French grape varieties like Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Aligote can be mainly attributed to them.
Averești Winery owns 650 hectares of vineyards, with the most representative grape varieties being Busuioaca de Bohotin, Tămâioasa Românească, and Zghihara. It is also home to the largest area planted with the Busuioaca de Bohotin variety in Romania, covering 105 hectares.
