Mavrud
The flagship dark grape of Bulgaria
Mavrud is Bulgaria's flagship black grape, known as one of the country’s most high-potential indigenous varieties.
The name "Mavrud" originates from the Greek word mavro, meaning "black."
This grape is cultivated in Bulgaria, Greece, Albania, and Romania.
Wines made from Mavrud typically have a deep ruby color. They often exhibit aromas of blackberry and prune, with a full-bodied, dense, and harmonious taste. Well-balanced tannins and acidity characterize the palate. Mavrud wines usually benefit from oak aging, acquiring complex aromas and flavors.
Mavrud wines pair well with richly flavored dishes such as beef stew, duck with orange sauce, duck stew, and various meat dishes.
