Rhein Riesling
Rhein Riesling
There are two major grape varieties that may be labeled as "Riesling." The most common is Rhein Riesling, known for its classic Riesling characteristics. The other is Welschriesling, which may also appear on labels as "Riesling" or "Italian Riesling" on some Eastern European wines.
Rhein Riesling is primarily cultivated in Western Europe, especially in Germany.
In English and German-speaking countries, it is labeled as [Riesling or Rhein Riesling]. In Romania, it is labeled as [Riesling de Rin], and in Czechia and Slovakia, it is known as [Rizling rynsky].
Rhein Riesling produces wines in a wide range of sweetness levels, from dry to sweet. It is known for its sharp acidity and tightly focused fruit flavors.
This variety often exhibits aromas of white peach, lemon, white flowers, honey, and petrol, if bottle-aged.
It generally pairs well with mild white fish and pork dishes.
