Cabernet Sauvignon
Cabernet Sauvignon
Introduction
Cabernet Sauvignon is, without a doubt, the superstar of wine grapes. Its birthplace is said to be in the sunny southwest of France. Typical Cabernet Sauvignon has rich herbaceous and black-fruit aromas, along with some serious tannins and acidity.
What makes Cabernet Sauvignon really special is its ability to create top-notch red wines that can age gracefully for years in the bottle. It's the secret ingredient behind some of the most famous wines in the world.
Characteristics of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes and wines
Cabernet Sauvignon thrives in warm climates. It can also be found in a moderate climate, usually in the warmest spots.
These grapes come with thick skins packed with loads of color, flavor, and tannin.
Wines made from Cabernet Sauvignon tend to have a deep, rich color, with bold aromas of black fruit (blackcurrant, black cherry) in warmer climates and herbal (mint) or herbaceous (green bell pepper) in moderate climates. On the palate, these wines are usually medium to full-bodied, dry, high in acidity, and high in tannins.
