🇷🇴 Gramma Winery

Gramma Winery

My first visit to Gramma Winery was in 2016, accompanied by a group of Japanese guests. It was also the moment I met Marian Olteanu, the visionary behind this remarkable project. I still remember my first impression: a warm welcome, genuine people, and wines bursting with energy. Gramma is a winery with a modern spirit, where the passion and youthful energy of its team are evident in every detail.

But Gramma's strength is not just its modern approach—its unique terroir plays a crucial role in shaping the character of its wines. Cutting-edge technology is used not to overpower nature, but to subtly enhance the inherent qualities of the grapes grown here.

The vines are cultivated in the Vișan special-grade vineyard, belonging to the Iași wine subregion.

A special-grade vineyard is the smallest officially recognized wine-growing unit in Romania. This area is defined by its uniform topography and a distinct set of natural conditions—microclimate, soil, and terrain—that contribute to wines with a unique personality, deeply connected to their place of origin.

In recent years, more and more Romanian producers have embraced the importance of highlighting their special-grade vineyard’s identity, an initiative we at Daniel’s Wine Club wholeheartedly support. Gramma was one of the first wineries to champion this approach, placing a strong emphasis on the terroir of Vișan from the very beginning.

Just 8 km from the center of Iași, Vișan special-grade vineyard is located near the northernmost limit of Romania’s winemaking regions. This cooler climate is perfect for preserving freshness and vibrancy in the wines.

Gramma cultivates a carefully selected range of grape varieties, including Aligoté, Fetească Albă, Fetească Regală, Sauvignon Blanc, Busuioacă de Bohotin, Fetească Neagră, and Merlot.

The true star is, no doubt, Aligoté, which has found an ideal home here, fully expressing its potential.

What Does “Gramma” Mean?

In its classical sense, the word Gramma (derived from Ancient Greek) means letter, word, or written message. But for Marian Olteanu, the heart and CEO of the winery, Gramma is something much more—it’s the wine that brings warmth to long, heartfelt conversations with loved ones.

Welcome to Japan!

Starting in March 2025, Gramma wines will officially debut in Japan through Daniel’s Wine Club. This marks the first time that wines from the Iași vineyard will be introduced to the members of our club. We are confident that their fresh, vibrant white wines will captivate and delight.
