Top 100 Wine Merchant 2025
Nativus Fetească Neagră 2022 was selected as one of the Top 100 wines by a jury of UK independent wine merchants at the 2025 London Wine Fair. This prestigious inclusion (from over 1,000 wines tasted) highlights the wine’s intrinsic quality and value, as the guide is considered one of the most influential in the industry. The winery has noted this as an important accolade, stating that the wine “stands out for its authenticity and elegance,” reaffirming the potential of this indigenous variety and Averesti’s terroir.
The label
The label design draws inspiration from ancient symbols of the Cucuteni culture — the symbols of Harvest, Hills, and Protection. These three interwoven emblems reflect the deep connection between people, nature, and tradition. Beneath their shared meaning lies wine itself, a timeless centerpiece of the region’s history and cultural identity.
Tasting notes
Appearance
The wine displays a deep, dark red color with intense ruby reflections in the glass. This vivid hue suggests a concentrated red wine typical of the Fetească Neagră grape.
Nose
A complex array of aromas unfolds, led by ripe plum, plum jam (magiun), and sour cherry compote, gently layered with subtle smoky undertones. A delicate touch of white pepper — a signature of high-altitude vineyards — adds a refined spiciness. The overall impression is both intense and harmonious, balancing generous fruit with elegant spice.
Palate
On the palate, the wine reveals a rustic yet refined character typical of cooler-climate reds. Juicy forest berries and black cherries take center stage, framed by earthy undertones that speak of the vineyard’s terroir. The texture is firm yet polished, with a balanced structure and well-integrated tannins. Notes of spice echo through the finish, enhancing the dark fruit and leaving a lasting, memorable impression.
Food pairing
It pairs beautifully with flavorful, hearty dishes such as spiced grilled meats, slow-cooked stews, or tender pork ribs. Its lively acidity and fine tannins cut through rich, savory flavors, while the wine’s blend of fruit and smokiness complements barbecued dishes and roasted game — a versatile companion to robust, rustic cuisine.
