The label
The label design draws inspiration from ancient symbols of the Cucuteni culture — the symbols of Harvest, Hills, and Protection. These three interwoven emblems reflect the deep connection between people, nature, and tradition. Beneath their shared meaning lies wine itself, a timeless centerpiece of the region’s history and cultural identity.
Tasting notes
Appearance
Pale straw-yellow with subtle greenish hues, displaying brilliant clarity. Its aspect hints at the youth and freshness of this wine, consistent with the style of this grape variety.
Nose
On the nose, this white presents pleasant but discreet aromas – it is not an overly aromatic variety, but offers delicate nuances. Primary notes include green apple, lime zest, and gooseberry, which give a crisp, orchard-fruit character. There are also fine floral and herbal undertones (hints of white blossoms like jasmine and a touch of fennel or fresh herbs) that add complexity to the aroma profile. A subtle mineral streak lies beneath the fruit, along with a slight “green” or herbal quality. Overall the nose is fresh, restrained, and terroir-driven, inviting repeated sniffs to tease out its subtle layers.
Palate
Dry and light-bodied. Lively on the palate, owing to its notably high acidity. The flavor echoes the nose: fresh and fruity, with green apple, citrus (lemon/lime), and underripe stone fruit notes shining through. There is a distinctive tangy sorrel (green herb) note mid-palate – a hallmark of the Zghihară grape – which contributes a pleasant zip of greenery. The texture is sleek and sprightly (the wine was aged on fine lees to gain a bit of roundness, but it remains a light, quaffable style). The finish is clean and mineral, with a bright acidity that carries flavors of gooseberry and citrus pith. A very slight bitter hint (reminiscent of grapefruit peel) appears at the end, adding complexity to the crisp, refreshing finish. Overall, the palate is vibrant, clean, and zesty, making this an extremely refreshing white wine.
Food Pairings
Thanks to its high acidity and delicate flavor profile, Nativus Zghihară de Averești is quite food-friendly. It shines as an apéritif white and pairs excellently with light dishes. White meats are a top recommendation – particularly white poultry like chicken or game birds (e.g. partridge or quail) prepared simply. The wine’s citrusy, green-fruit character also complements seafood and fish; try it with grilled white fish, seared scallops, shrimp, or light ceviches. Its bright acidity will cut through the richness of fried fish or calamari as well. The winery and experts also note it goes well with fresh cheeses (goat cheese, mozzarella) and even crisp salads or vegetable appetizers. Any delicate or lightly flavored dish – from herb-roasted poultry to seafood pasta to soft cheeses – would pair nicely, as the wine’s vivacity cleanses the palate without overwhelming subtle food flavors.
