Introductory notes

When Count Piero Antinori first visited Romania, he was captivated by the local wines, especially by a rare grape, unknown to him until then. He immediately decided to purchase a small vineyard in the Dealu Mare region and named it "Via Marchizului" or "The Marquis' Vineyard."

Via Marchizului is an exceptional vineyard in the Dealu Mare region, situated at an elevation of 261-273 meters with a southwest-facing slope of 9%. It covers a modest area of only 1.69 hectares.

What makes this vineyard special is the cultivation of a very rare grape variety called "Negru de Drăgășani." The cultivation area for this grape is extremely limited, making large-scale production impossible. However, it holds great potential and has received high praise in prestigious domestic and international wine competitions.

This wine is produced from single-vineyard, fully organically grown grapes. It's a limited edition wine with a total production of 7830 bottles. Highly recommended for those looking to savor a fresh and unique experience.

Tasting notes

  • Appearance
A deep ruby color with hints of purple.
  • Nose
Notes of Morello cherry, red currant, red plum, black cherry, blackberry, cassis, lavender, thyme, eucalyptus, plum, and violet mingle with elements of cocoa, dark chocolate, licorice, cinnamon, coffee, tobacco, toffee, caramel, and cloves derived from Italian oak barrels. Hints of underbrush, fir, fig, and prunes are also beginning to emerge.
  • Palate
The attack is powerful and robust, with a sense of richly concentrated fruit. Ripe fruit flavors spread in the mouth, evoking cocoa and Morello cherries. It has firm acidity, abundant tannins, and sufficient alcohol content. With its solid body, it is well-prepared for long-term aging, which will further enhance its smooth texture and full-bodied character. The finish is robust and long-lasting, elegantly showcasing the wine's top-quality status.
  • Food pairing
It pairs well with roast beef, ragu pasta, cheese risotto, lean beef steaks, and cheeses like soft and hard cheeses.
