The grape

Aligoté, a white grape variety originating from France, remains relatively underappreciated on the global wine stage despite its ability to produce excellent wines. In Romania, however, it has found a thriving home, with 5,065 hectares under cultivation as of 2023—more than three times the area planted in Burgundy.

In the Dobrogea region, Aligoté is the most representative white grape variety, covering 854 hectares as of 2023. At Daniel’s Wine Club, we wholeheartedly recommend exploring Aligoté wines from this region. Their unique charm and exceptional quality make them well worth a try.

The wine

This Aligoté is a single-vineyard wine crafted from grapes grown in the finest vineyards of the Sarica-Niculitel region. It stands proudly among world-class wines, showcasing remarkable aging potential.

Aged for six months in French oak barrels on fine lees (sur lie aging), this wine achieves enhanced complexity and an added layer of sophistication. Its meticulous production process highlights the depth and elegance possible from Dobrogea's unique terroir.

Unquestionably, this wine is a stellar example of the Dobrogea region's potential, reflecting both tradition and innovation.

Tasting notes

Appearance

A healthy, bright medium lemon color.

Nose

The fresh and rich primary aromas are complemented by elegant secondary aromas, showcasing a wonderful complexity. Wildflowers, elderflower, acacia, chamomile, citrus fruits (lemon, grapefruit), green apple, white peach, and pear are combined with a mineral sensation derived from limestone soils (wet stones, flint), buttery notes from malolactic fermentation, freshly baked bread from sur lie aging, and vanilla aromas from barrel aging, resulting in a wine filled with finesse and elegance.

Palate

Upon tasting, it reveals juicy fruitiness and lively acidity, leaving a fresh impression. The mineral sensation derived from the soil is also pleasing. With added elements from barrel aging, it has become an extremely complex wine. It possesses a firm, distinctive, unwavering structure. The roundness from sur lie aging and the robustness from new oak barrels are particularly appealing.

Mushroom risotto, seafood, smoked salmon, fried oysters, cheese, tempura.
