What is Irsai Olivér?
Irsai Olivér is a Hungarian white grape variety, created in 1930 by grape breeder Pál Kocsis by crossing Pozsonyi Fehér with Csaba Gyöngye (Pearl of Csaba). It ripens early and is prized for its exuberant, Muscat-like aromatics.
Around 1,500 hectares are planted across Hungary, in cooler regions such as Pannonhalma, Mátra and Neszmély, as well as around Lake Balaton. It is a popular choice for fresh, fragrant and approachable aromatic white wines. We warmly invite you to discover a truly Hungarian Irsai Olivér.
An elegant Irsai Olivér to brighten summer
A fresh, fragrant dry white made from Irsai Olivér grown on the volcanic soils of Badacsony, Hungary. Crystal-clear and pale greenish-yellow, it opens with a light acacia-blossom perfume layered with pear, yellow peach and citrus. Rather than the overt flamboyance typical of aromatic varieties, this bottling is more refined and elegant. A medium-length, gently rounded finish makes it an ideal aperitif and a perfect refresher on a hot summer's day. Serve chilled at 8~10°C to bring out its charm.
Tasting notes
Appearance
Crystal-clear, pale greenish-yellow; healthy and bright.
Nose
Fresh and delicately floral, with notes of acacia blossom layered over pear, yellow peach and citrus. The Muscat-like aromatics characteristic of Irsai Olivér are present but restrained, giving an elegant overall impression.
Palate
Fresh pear leads, with subtle hints of yellow peach and citrus. Medium-length on the finish, rounded and gentle in its aftertaste. Crisp and dry yet generously fruity, it is thoroughly approachable, a light and pleasant style perfect for a celebratory first glass or for refreshment on a warm day.
Food pairing
Ideal as an aperitif or a toast. It pairs well with white fish and seafood starters, fresh cheeses and summer vegetable salads. With Japanese cuisine, it also goes nicely with sashimi, tempura and vinegared dishes (sunomono).
