Pinot Noir from Bulgaria's Black Sea coast
Around Pomorie, on Bulgaria's south-eastern Black Sea coast, sea breezes, a cooler climate and airy soils create fine conditions for viticulture. Pinot Noir is famously difficult to grow, yet this coastal terroir lends it elegance and a delicate, mineral character. This is an approachable, easy-drinking Pinot at a friendly price.
Black Sea Gold, a Pomorie institution
Black Sea Gold, founded in 1932 in the coastal town of Pomorie, is one of Bulgaria's leading wineries. It farms some 650 hectares of its own vineyards, working both international and local varieties. The "Pentagram" range is the house's line of characterful, carefully made wines.
Why choose this wine?
A fruity, easy-drinking Pinot Noir, with cherry, raspberry and blueberry fruit layered with vanilla and gentle spice. The tannins are soft and the acidity nicely judged. It brings the elegance of the cool Black Sea coast to the table at a friendly price, and pairs happily with pork, salmon, tuna and much more.
Tasting notes
Appearance
Deep ruby.
Nose
Morello cherry, blueberry, raspberry and sour cherry, with notes of vanilla and roasted wood.
Palate
A fruit-driven attack with sour-cherry aromas. Tannins are soft and unobtrusive, with well-judged acidity. Fruity and approachable.
Food pairing
A natural match for pork dishes, salmon and tuna. It also works with grilled chicken and mushroom dishes, and among Japanese cuisine with duck, teriyaki and dashi-rich preparations.
