What is Gitana Winery?

Gitana Winery is one of the leading premium producers of Moldova's Valul lui Traian region. Its story begins in 1953, when a wine factory was established in the village of Plopi. In 1999 the Dulgher family took over, renovated the cellars, installed modern equipment and set a clear course: quality before quantity. The family launched the Gitana brand in 2011, and today the wines travel from Moldova to Japan, wider Asia, Europe and North America.

Terroir and winemaking

The estate vineyards stretch across southwest-facing slopes in Romanovca and Filipeni, in the Leova district, shaped by the nearby Tigheci forests and the distant breath of the Black Sea. Whites are made with cold cryomaceration and cool stainless steel fermentation for purity of aroma; reds ferment with indigenous yeasts in large oak vats and mature from six months to two years in oak. Italian winemaker Nicola Tucci leads the cellar, pursuing one consistent style: elegant, complex, expressive.

Wines with family stories

Every Gitana bottle carries a story. The flagship Lupi honors a family of wolves living among the vines; the premium white La Petit Sophie is dedicated to the family's little Sophie; the native grape Rara Neagra keeps centuries of Moldovan tradition alive; and the friendly Portret series sketches the house style for everyday tables.
