Introductory notes

When Count Piero Antinori first visited Romania, he was captivated by the local wines. He immediately decided to purchase a small vineyard in the Dealu Mare region and named it "Via Marchizului" or "The Marquis' Vineyard."

Via Marchizului is an exceptional vineyard in the Dealu Mare region. There are only three grape varieties cultivated here: Negru de Dragasani, Feteasca neagra, and Pinot Noir.

This wine is produced from single-vineyard, fully organically grown grapes.

Tasting notes

  • Appearance
Ruby color with hints of garnet.
  • Nose
It has clear fruit and floral aromas mixed with elements of spices, showing complexity and depth. It carries nuances of blueberries, plums, strawberry jam, cinnamon, cloves, and red flowers.
  • Palate
From its voluminous mouthfeel, the richness of red fruit spreads out. It evokes a chewy, solid fruitiness and has a robust structure. The tannins and acidity are gentle but it offers considerable drinking satisfaction, with a long-lasting finish.
  • Food pairing
It pairs well with oven-roasted duck, roast turkey, mushroom dishes, pepperoni pizza, beet salad with goat cheese.

  • Historical region: Muntenia.
  • Wine region: Dealurile Munteniei.
  • Podgorie: Dealu Mare.
  • Village: Vadu Săpat.
  • Weather in year of harvest: the year 2019 began with a mild winter, featuring unusually high temperatures for the season, reaching maximum values of up to 15°C. Generous snowfalls in January compensated for the low precipitation in February, March, and April. These climatic factors slightly accelerated the vine's growth. However, the Dealu Mare wine region was hit by hail towards the end of spring, significantly impacting the vineyards and reducing the harvest by half. The grapes benefited from increased mineral resources, physico-chemical properties, and high sugar content. Summer and autumn temperatures remained within the normal range of recent years, and the total annual precipitation reached 646 mm.
  • Rainfall in year of harvest: 646 mm.
  • Soil: a combination of gravel, marl, and clay.
  • Vineyard name: Via Marchizului
  • Vineyard surface: 1.25 Ha
  • Vineyard density: 5682 vines / Ha.
