At Daniel's Wine Club, we introduce places we truly believe in. A comfortable evening and good wine matter, of course, but what matters most to us are the connections that grow there and the people who make the place what it is.

This time: Asagaya Staccato, in Asagaya, Tokyo.

Thirty seconds from the north exit of Asagaya Station, on the 6th floor of a building, you will find it. Waiting for you are the master, Tommy, together with Midori and Atsuko. On 9 September 2026 this grown-up bar with live music entered its 14th year.

The bottles along the bar are lit from below, candlelight flickers, and beyond the counter the lights of Asagaya spread out across the night. I caught myself just looking, and breathing out.

Music is the main course

Every musician is chosen by Midori

What makes a night at Asagaya Staccato is the live music. The musicians who take the stage are chosen by Midori.

Once the music starts, the instruments and voices wrap around you completely. It felt less like listening and more like seeing the world of each song unfold in front of me.

That night the bar was full. Guests were lost in the musicians' original songs and in Argentine tango, and they looked truly happy. Looking around the room, everyone was immersed in the music, and Midori was among them.

She listened intently, both hands raised to her lips. Watching her, I thought: she really loves music. Perhaps that is why every song here reaches you so directly: the performances are chosen by someone who loves music with all her heart.

Tonight's performers

Performing that evening:

  • 会田桃子 (Momoko Aida), violin and vocals
  • 尾花毅 (Obana), 8-string guitar
  • 太宰百合 (Yuri Dazai), piano

The song that stayed with me: "El Día Que Me Quieras"
A classic by Carlos Gardel, the legendary tango singer and composer, who wrote it in 1935 for the film of the same name and sang it himself. True to its title, "the day you love me", Ms. Aida's deep voice carried a quiet, tender longing. It completely won me over.

Together since the very beginning

Into our 14th year together

Asagaya Staccato and Daniel's Wine Club have worked together since the day the bar opened. "Because it's delicious," they say, and they have kept choosing and ordering the Romanian wines they like ever since. Nothing could make us happier or more grateful.

Discovering Romanian wine in Asagaya

A red and a white at the bar

Among the whiskies and gins lined up behind the bar at Asagaya Staccato, you will also find Romanian wines from Daniel's Wine Club. Here are the two we drank that night.

Anima Cabernet Sauvignon 2017
A 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from Sahateni in Dealu Mare, one of Romania's best known wine regions. Cassis and other dark fruit, with layers of mint, cedar, vanilla and cocoa. A soft attack leads into a firm body. Aged 17 months in French and Romanian oak, it is an elegant dry red.

Via Coltul Pietrei Sauvignon Blanc 2024
From Metamorfosis, the Dealu Mare estate founded by Italy's Antinori family, and its own Coltul Pietrei vineyard: 100% Sauvignon Blanc. Lemon, lime, green apple and passion fruit, with a lift of elderflower. The limestone soils give it a wet-stone minerality. Smooth on the palate, with a crisp, clean dry finish.

Something to go with the music

Light meals are available

Light meals are available to enjoy with the music and drinks. That night, guests near us ordered pizza, and it looked delicious.

A full house

Our wine in the guests' glasses

On that full night, regulars at many tables were enjoying our Romanian wines.

Usually our work ends when the wine reaches the bar. We rarely get to see it poured and enjoyed. Watching guests lose themselves in the music, glass in hand, deep in conversation, made me truly happy.

It was also the first time I heard what guests think, face to face. It was a real gift.

Good music, good nights

A place for people who simply love music

The people who gather at Staccato all love music, plainly and sincerely: the musicians on stage, the team behind the bar, and the guests listening.

Take a drink you like and let the live music carry you. It will be a night to remember. And when you are there, try a glass of Romanian wine.
If you mention that you came from Daniel's Wine Club, we think a lovely evening will be waiting for you.
