Babeasca Neagra

Băbească Neagră is one of Romania's most iconic indigenous grape varieties. Currently, 133 synonyms have been identified, and in neighboring Moldova, it is known as Rara Neagră.

Wines made from this variety are characterized by their rich fruitiness and soft tannins, resulting in an approachable and easy-to-drink style. Aromas of red fruits and violets emerge beautifully, producing wines reminiscent of Pinot Noir, Kadarka, or Blaufränkisch. This is why we often refer to it as “Romania’s Pinot Noir.”

Tasting notes

Appearance

A healthy, radiant ruby-pink hue with fine, persistent bubbles.

Nose

This wine is defined by its fresh and remarkably vibrant aroma, delivering a truly charming experience. The scent bursts with notes of wild strawberries, raspberries, and acerola, complemented by the floral elegance of rosehip, violets, and roses.

Palate

Crisp and refreshingly lively, the palate showcases energetic, effervescent bubbles. A perfect balance of pleasant acidity complemented by notes of wild strawberries, cherries, and acerola. The harmony between the fresh acidity and subtle fruitiness is beautifully achieved.

Food pairing

This versatile sparkling wine pairs exceptionally well with a wide variety of dishes, making it an ideal food-friendly choice. It harmonizes beautifully with sushi, gyoza, and many other cuisines. With its rich aromas and flavors, it is equally enjoyable on its own.
