About the producer
La Corte dei Goliardi was founded in 2019 by brothers Lorenzo and Alberto Mangani, who grew up among the Chianti hills. Having learned wine's depths in the family vineyard as boys, they spent months walking the Chianti Classico territory before selecting the parcels behind their wines.
The "goliardi" were the wandering student-poets of medieval Europe, who kept wine as the companion of every gathering — the name is a toast to conviviality itself.
What is Chianti Classico?
Chianti Classico is the historic heartland between Florence and Siena — its borders fixed by Grand Duke Cosimo III back in 1716, making it one of the world's oldest delimited wine zones. Every bottle carries the Gallo Nero, the Black Rooster, born of the legend of a border race between Florence and Siena decided by a rooster's early crow.
These grapes grow in Castelnuovo Berardenga, the warmest, southernmost corner of the zone — home of generous, full-bodied Sangiovese.
No oak — a deliberate choice for purity
This Chianti Classico skips barrel aging entirely: about 20 months in stainless steel, then 5 months in bottle. No oak makeup — just Sangiovese's bare, beautiful fruit, from organically grown grapes. The quiet ambition of a young producer honouring tradition through purity.
Tasting notes
Appearance
Clear, deep ruby.
Nose
Berry fruit with fine spice nuances — light, toasty, appetizing notes that never lean on oak.
Palate
Good structure wrapped in an enveloping roundness, with a gentle savoury touch. Simple at first glance, deep on acquaintance — a taste that recalls a great tradition. Balanced through to a longish finish.
Food pairing
Fresh and semi-aged pecorino, cured meats, and meat dishes across the board. Bistecca is the classic, but yakitori and sukiyaki work delightfully too.
