Egri Bikavér, the legendary "Bull's Blood"
Egri Bikavér, meaning "Bull's Blood of Eger", is one of Hungary's most iconic traditional red blends. Made only in the Eger region of northern Hungary, it is built around Kékfrankos (Blaufränkisch) blended with several other varieties. Its name is said to date from a 16th-century legend of the Ottoman siege of Eger, when the deep colour and power of the wine earned it the title "Bull's Blood".
This bottling is a Classicus, the entry tier of Egri Bikavér, which requires a blend of at least four varieties and a minimum of six months of oak ageing. The style prizes balance and drinkability, allowing no single grape to dominate.
Petrény Winery, an Eger institution
The Petrény family has been growing grapes and making wine in the Eger region since the early 1600s, in Verpelét. The present family estate began its modern development in 2001 and has grown into one of Eger's leading producers, farming more than 150 hectares. The winery sits at no. 47 in Eger's Szépasszony-völgy (Valley of the Beautiful Woman), and the family also runs a Wine Bank on Eger's central Dobó Square. This is a name backed by long tradition and dependable craftsmanship.

Appearance
Deep ruby to garnet.
Nose
Blackcurrant, raspberry and black cherry lead, layered with fern, roasted almond and spice from oak ageing. Complex and harmonious, with no single variety standing out.
Palate
A lighter-styled medium body, with soft acidity and fine, gentle tannins. Red-fruit flavours stretch out generously. A balanced, easy-drinking wine built for the table rather than for show.
Food pairing
A fine match for red meats such as wagyu fillet steak, as well as chicken and pork dishes. It also goes well with tomato-based pasta and hard cheeses. Among Japanese dishes, try it with sukiyaki, teriyaki or miso-based meat preparations.
