About the winery
Podere Casanova sits in Montepulciano, the Tuscan town famed for Vino Nobile. Owners Isidoro and Susanna Rebatto made their name reviving disused hydroelectric power stations across Italy for clean energy — and in 2016 they poured that same passion into breathing new life into this historic vineyard.
Today about 16 hectares are picked by hand, converting to organics since 2021, with Equalitas sustainability certification. In Montepulciano's old town they even run a shop pairing wine with contemporary art — a producer full of fresh energy.
What is a Super Tuscan?
Super Tuscans are Tuscany's free spirits: wines made outside the traditional appellation rules, blending Sangiovese with Bordeaux varieties. Born in the 1970s with Tignanello and Sassicaia, they went on to charm the whole wine world.
Mane blends Sangiovese with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. The name is Latin for "morning."
A proper Super Tuscan at an everyday price
"Super Tuscan" can sound like an unreachable luxury — this one is priced for the dinner table. A short spell in French barrels adds complexity while keeping the fruit fresh, and the balance is good enough to enjoy on its own. A perfect first Super Tuscan.
Tasting notes
Appearance
Elegant ruby red.
Nose
Red currant, cherry and prune, layered with spice — black pepper and a touch of licorice.
Palate
Generous fruit given backbone by well-judged tannins. Power and drinkability in fine balance — lovely on its own, better with food. A pleasantly spicy note lingers on the finish.
Food pairing
Outstanding with hard cheeses and grilled red meat. Also great with pasta al ragù, hamburger steak, or soy-glazed grilled onigiri — anything with a savoury char.
