What is Viorica?
Viorica is a crossing bred in Moldova. The name is a common Moldovan girl's name meaning "violet", and the grape earns it: the floral lift hits you the moment it goes into the glass. This is an unapologetically aromatic variety.
Think white flowers, citrus, muscat and lychee. It is barely planted outside Moldova, so it offers a character you will not find in the international varieties, and because it holds its acidity well it has become a favourite base for sparkling wine in recent years.
Radacini Wines
Radacini Wines was founded in 1998. "Rădăcini" is Romanian for "roots", and the name is the whole philosophy: this is a producer that builds its range around local grapes.
The estate farms roughly 1,000 hectares and uses 100% estate-grown fruit. Apart from part of the entry range, the harvest is done by hand and only the first-press juice is used. The winery was born out of a collaboration with Umberto Menini, an Italian winemaker and consultant with 50 years in the trade.
Radacini was named Moldova Best Winery of the Year 2020 by the Moldovan government and Vine and Wine, the national wine promotion body. In July 2021 it became the first and still only Moldovan winery certified to both the BRC and IFS international food standards.

Why choose this wine?
Six international gold medals in 2025 alone, plus "Best Sparkling Moldova" at Mundus Vini, and another gold at the 2026 Sakura Awards. Very few sparkling wines at this price attract that much attention.
Because it is made by the Asti method, the fresh fruit and floral character of the grape land in your glass more or less intact. It works as an aperitif, and it keeps working right through a meal, from Japanese food to Southeast Asian. If you have never met Viorica, this is the bottle to start with.
Tasting notes
Appearance
Straw yellow with green tints. Fine, persistent bead.
Nose
Pronounced. Citrus blossom and white flowers, acacia, orchard fruit (white peach, pear, melon), lychee and muscat. Overflowing with freshness and aromatic lift.
Palate
Medium body. Bright citrus flavours carried by crisp, clean-cut acidity, beautifully balanced against generous fruit. The fine bubbles tighten everything up and the finish is clean and refreshing.
Food pairing
Start with it as an aperitif. Salads, sauteed seafood, carpaccio, tempura and fresh goat cheese all work. Viorica's floral side also handles spicy Asian food well: Thai green curry, fresh spring rolls, herb-heavy salads. Among Japanese dishes, try it with white fish sashimi, sushi, or simply as the glass before a bowl of soba.
