Cabernet Sauvignon from Villány
Villány, at Hungary's southernmost tip, is the country's flagship red-wine region, blessed with a warm climate and limestone soils. Here Bordeaux varieties ripen beautifully, and Cabernet Sauvignon yields concentrated, powerful reds. 2017 is regarded as an outstanding vintage in Villány, giving wines of rich fruit and fine balance.
Vylyan Winery, a Villány powerhouse
Vylyan was founded in 1992 in Siklós, in the Villány region. Its name comes from "Vylian", one of the area's old place-names recorded in documents from a wine history stretching back more than a thousand years. Farming around 120 hectares of its own vineyards and producing some 600,000 bottles a year, the estate has earned wide international recognition, including the title of "Winery of the Year" in 2008. It is known for precise, elegant winemaking that respects the character of the grape and of each vintage.
Why choose this wine?
A full-bodied 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from Villány's outstanding 2017 vintage. Ripe blackcurrant, plum and blueberry meet cocoa, coffee and oak-derived spice, while velvety tannins carry a long finish. It brings the quality of a leading Villány estate to the table at a friendly price. Perfect alongside a special-occasion steak or a slow-braised meat dish.
Tasting notes
Appearance
Deep, dark garnet.
Nose
Ripe blackcurrant, plum and blueberry lead, layered with cocoa, coffee, tobacco, paprika and hay, plus oak-derived spice and roast. A flinty, mineral note peeks through.
Palate
Full-bodied, with concentrated ripe fruit and velvety, generous tannins. Lively acidity and a subtle saline note keep it fresh and balanced, closing on a long, harmonious finish.
Food pairing
An excellent match for steak and beef dishes, as well as lamb, game and aged cheeses. Among Japanese dishes, try it with sukiyaki or richer miso- or soy-based meat preparations.
